An environmental biotechnology company with Bionexus status is in operation since 1980. Green & Smart Sdn Bhd (G&S) was established in 1980 as Mardec Engineering Sdn Bhd as a subsidiary of Mardec Berhad (Government's corporation) to carry out consultancy works outside Mardec Berhad, which is one of the biggest natural rubber (NR) processing companies catering for smallholders.
After management buy out the company changed its name to Green & Smart Sdn Bhd in 1996. Initially the company was mainly involved in the rubber processing consultancy. In 1984 the company found an opportunity in disposable NR gloves market (with AIDS spreading fast) and was pioneer in developing gloves industry gaged in developing anaerobic digestion systems for rubber industry. It had many rubber processing consultancy and wastewater related business from S.E.A countries.
The company focused more on waste water treatment since year 2000. Developed GRASS " Sewage treatment system (patented) first and only anaerobic system for the low COD strength waste waters in Malaysia.In its R&D efforts came out with POME-MAS technology in 2006. Now with a contract from a major palm oil producer in the world, the company is building POME biogas plants at four mills.It has developed a new individual septic tank, GREENPAK (patent applied)
In June 2008 the company obtained Bionexus status. The company is now involved in palm oil waste and bioenergy related R&D. The company has more than 140 references in Malaysia and overseas which includes consultancy works for World Bank, ADB, FAO, etc.
Company's paid up capital is RM2.2 Million and it is Malaysian owned.
